A Trip to Catalina Island
Sixth-graders at Liberty have the opportunity to participate in a once in a lifetime trip to Catalina, off the coast of California. Students are able to explore the wonderful island. They will experience the underwater gardens, which are among the most beautiful in the world, and the island environment is unusual and unique. Your child will embark upon a science adventure that will not only teach marine science and island ecology but also will stimulate curiosity for nature and become a treasured memory. The program consists of a series of activities that include snorkeling, oceanography, marine biology labs, and ocean kayaking.
A Visit to the Grand Canyon
Liberty 4th-graders learn about the history and geography of Arizona. At the end of the year we culminate our studies by taking an overnight trip to Grand Canyon National Park and Walnut Canyon near Flagstaff. Students can view firsthand the weathering and erosion that have created the Grand Canyon. They also learn about the geology and animal habitats in this area. We’ll spend time hiking into Walnut Canyon and discovering the ruins of the early Arizona people. The Grand Canyon, one of the natural wonders of the world, provides the students with an exciting experience.
Curriculum-Based Tutoring is provided at Liberty Elementary for students who are struggling in Reading or Math. Teachers determine eligibility during their Professional Learning Community (PLC) team meetings, using assessment data based on curriculum standards. Eligible students are invited for second and/or third quarter reinforcement and supplemental instruction. We only request a total parent contribution of $25 for the quarter, as Tax Credit Monies are utilized to supplement the remaining cost for the tutoring. Liberty teachers provide their time to tutor small groups, generally one time a week, before or after school. Through Curriculum-Based Tutoring, students have made steady growth and improvement in concept mastery, as well as assessment scores. If you have any questions regarding Curriculum-Based Tutoring, please contact your child’s homeroom teacher.
Fine Arts at Liberty Elementary
Liberty is proud to offer a structured art and music curriculum that focuses on developing creativity and higher-order thinking skills. In addition, 4th-6th graders have the opportunity to participate in band or strings programs. Liberty also offers chorus for our 4th-6th graders. Each year in the spring, our musical theatre program produces a Broadway Jr. musical for the community to enjoy.
Liberty Elementary provides special academic programs for students who are exceptionally gifted and talented. These programs include accelerated learning classes for students identified based on placement test results.
Physical Education at Liberty Elementary
Physical Education at Liberty involves many experiences from having fun, learning sport skills, making healthy food choices, displaying teamwork and sportsmanship.
The overall goal is to instill confidence to be active for a lifetime.
In the spring, we host field days for grades 4-6 and a fun day for grades K-3. Both days are based upon activities that are practiced throughout the school year.
As they enter school, all students undergo an initial screening designed to identify any major areas of concern. These areas may include vision, hearing, speech, academics and/or behavior. As students progress through school, parents may request that staff members help solve behavioral problems.
The individual needs of all students with disabilities are met through the process of identification, evaluation, placement, and the provision of needed and required programs and related services. All parents and students are provided procedural safeguards, due process, confidentiality, and the right to a free and appropriate education.
We have a certified team supporting all the programs needed for students that qualify: speech pathologists, occupational therapy, physical therapy, reading and resource specialists as well as a psychologist on staff.

This curriculum focuses on Growth Mindset & Goal Setting, Emotion Management, Empathy & Kindness, and Problem-Solving.
For the 2022-2023 school year, we will be continuing to expand our implementation of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) through collaborative, engaging, and rigorous instruction within our classrooms. We have also added a 4th Special Area, so Liberty students will enjoy PE, Art, Music and STEAM throughout each month.
