Alyssa Orchard

As Principal of Liberty Elementary School, Mrs. Alyssa Orchard is dedicated to creating a welcoming and supportive school community where students feel safe, valued, and encouraged to do their best. She believes strong schools are built through positive relationships and collaboration. She works closely with students, staff, and families to support student achievement, strong instruction, and a positive school culture. 

Mrs. Orchard has spent her career in PVSchools, serving as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Before joining Liberty Elementary School, she served as principal at another PVSchools elementary school. Her experiences in both classroom and school leadership roles have shaped her collaborative approach and commitment to helping students and staff grow and succeed.

She began her career in education in 2011, teaching kindergarten and third grade before moving into school administration. She later served as an assistant principal for six years, gaining experience in instructional leadership, student support, school operations, and building strong school communities.

Mrs. Orchard earned a Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education from the University of Arizona and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Arizona State University. She also earned a Reading Specialist Endorsement from Grand Canyon University and is currently pursuing a doctorate in education through American College of Education.

Kristen Portillo

ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL ES

Kristen Portillo is the proud assistant principal at Liberty Elementary and believes that relationships are the foundation upon which everything in a school community grows and evolves. Ms Portillo’s leadership style is rooted in building trust, fostering collaboration, and creating meaningful connections with students, staff, and families. 

Ms. Portillo has proudly dedicated her entire educational career to Paradise Valley Unified School District and is proud to be a product of the district, having attended PVSchools from elementary through high school and graduating from the district. Since 2013, she has served as a long-term substitute, classroom teacher in 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 6th grades, behavior interventionist, and administrative intern/TOA. 

Ms. Portillo earned her bachelor’s degree from Arizona State University and master’s degree in educational leadership from Northern Arizona University. In addition to campus leadership roles, she has also had the privilege of serving as a district PBIS coach, supporting schools and educators in fostering positive school cultures and student success.
